The Great American Road Trip: Lesson 7

the great american road trip

While hiking in Yosemite, we crossed paths with a friendly stranger. He said he’d lived in California since he was six.  With only four days of our road trip left, we asked him to recommend our last stop.

“You’ve guys will love Santa Cruz!” he insisted. It was a little out of our way, but he seemed like a reliable source. We thanked him and continued hiking.

“Oh! ONE MORE THING!” He hollered up the trail to us. “Try the civiche!”

The civiche we had on the Santa Cruz pier the next day was the best I’ve ever tasted.

We did, in fact, love Santa Cruz. The people were friendly and Big Basin State Park was conveniently located a few miles away. We decided to spend the night there.

The next morning, we went for a trail run amongst the giant redwoods. It was paradise.

After working up a good sweat, we retreated to the coast; watching surfers catch perfect peelers all afternoon.

The remaining drive to Oregon seemed to pass quickly as we reminisced on the amazing adventures; The Great American Road Trip.
