Part II: Arrival in New Mexico
We pulled into New Mexico well after midnight. The headlights of my truck struggled to pierce dense fog and frost. Running on fumes, we stopped here for gas. Ice hung from the pump handle.
Nearly 3AM; we arrived; family had been kind enough to put us up as we passed through. I felt my spine rattle as I stood up out of the truck. The twenty plus hours had taken a toll. Weary, we immediately found the nearest bed.
A warm shower, soft pillow, and hot breakfast; you know.. a place to hang your hat.
The following morning, stale from the long hours of driving and itching to move, we looked up local mountain biking trails; found a gem just thirty minutes away. We put down a proud fifteen miles.
Chest heaving, sweat dripping; the sun set as we rode back to the truck.
Having a well deserved post-ride beer at the local brewery.
Sipping hot coffee the next morning, I peered out the window with eager eyes, anticipating our next stop; Joshua Tree.
